In inter-cultural communication, there are sets of meanings that are discernible to anyone, and an extra set of underlying meanings that are only accessible for people who have the cultural knowledge to discern them. These different sets of meanings embody a double perspective. We will discuss the double perspective involved in the interactions between public healthcare institutions, the clinicians and staff of these institutions, and Indigenous people. By realising the potential for improved resilience that a double perspective brings to Indigenous people, an awareness of the inclusion and exclusion of Indigenous persons, cultures and histories should become established in healthcare institutions and health research. A double perspective carries resilience, and as such it should be understood as a key to support individual health and the collective well-being of Indigenous people.]]> Thu 18 Aug 2022 12:01:18 AEST ]]> The HPV school vaccination program: a discourse analysis of information provided to parents https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:23614 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:13:28 AEDT ]]> The e-health literacy demands of Australia's My Health Record: a heuristic evaluation of usability https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:34528 Mon 25 Mar 2019 12:48:57 AEDT ]]> Use of the My Health Record by people with communication disability in Australia: a review to inform the design and direction of future research https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:25468 Mon 23 Sep 2019 11:15:55 AEST ]]> Exploring the Interplay Between Message Format, Need for Cognition and Personal Relevance on Processing Messages About Physical Activity: a Two-Arm Randomized Experimental Trial https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:53937  .05). Main effects of personal relevance were observed for some self-report outcomes, with increased relevance associated with better processing outcomes. An interaction between need for cognition and personal relevance was observed for perceived behavioral control (p = 0.002); greater relevance was associated with greater perceived behavioral control for those with a higher need for cognition. Conclusion: Matching physical activity messages based on NFC may not increase intervention efficacy. Relevance of materials is associated with greater change in physical activity determinants and may be more so among those with a higher NFC.]]> Mon 22 Jan 2024 16:49:45 AEDT ]]>
